The First Judicial District of Philadelphia is responsible for all moving citations. Moving citations are commonly known as speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign, illegal u turn or mechanical violations. Drivers that receive tickets are given the option to plead not guilty or guilty to the citation.

A plea of not guilty allows you to defend and answer to the citation you are facing before the court. The procedure for a not guilty plea begins by paying the municipal court a fee based upon the number of citations you are facing. Once the fee is paid the court schedules a hearing date to appear in court and you will receive instructions for your trial date by mail. Failure to appear without a warning to the court may result in the traffic trial being held despite your absence.

The payment of a citation is considered a guilty plea in Philadelphia Traffic Court and points shall be accessed against your driving record. The hiring of an attorney to fight your Philadelphia traffic ticket is a sound decision. The accumulation of 6 points within a year will result in the driver being forced to take and pass a written exam on safety, sanctions and driving practices. The exam must be completed within 30 days or your license will be suspended. The driver will not have their license reissued until the exam is passed.
