Seattle Traffic Violations
In Seattle, Washington traffic tickets are categorized as traffic infractions and criminal traffic offenses. The state of Washington issued more than 700,000 traffic tickets during 2008. Although the state of Washington does not use a formal point system, drivers with multiple violations within a twelve month period still may face revocation or suspension of their licensee. The traffic infractions consisted of parking violations, speeding and non moving violations. Seattle traffic infractions are considered non criminal offenses, and are punishable by a fine and sanctions against the driver's license including revocation and suspension.
Washington criminal traffic offenses include vehicular assault, driving under the Influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, unlawful possession of a driving license, driving on a suspended license and negligent driving. Seattle criminal traffic offenses are punishable by a fine and may include imprisonment. A complete list of criminal traffic offenses can be located at RCW 46.63.020.

7/18/2010 Seattle traffic tickets have been on the rise. The police are going after speeders and Seattle traffic ticket offenders. Our Seattle traffic ticket law firm specializes in fighting tickets. I have been seeing a lot more "failure to yield to emergency vehicle" tickets recently. The fine for this ticket is over $1000! Being cynical, I strongly suspect officers have been instructed to keep a closer eye for these types of tickets to get the additional revenue. Under RCW 46.61.210, when an emergency vehicle with its lights and siren is approaching you from behind, you must pull to the right. What officers have been doing is giving this ticket when they are pulling over the defendant and the defendant pulls over to the left hand shoulder. I see cops pulling people over every day on the left hand side (they will instruct you to pull over to the left too if you try to go to the right.) It seems reasonable to pull to the left if there is a large shoulder there and you were originally traveling in the left hand lane but don\’t do it unless specifically instructed to by the officer! Please call our Seattle Washington traffic law firm for any type of traffic violation we fight traffic violations all over Washington state. Our Seattle traffic violations will fight any traffic ticket and try and beat the traffic ticket.
6/23/2010 Traffic ticket attorneys can help in a variety of ways. Negligent driving can affect your driving record. There are TWO types of negligent driving. Negligent driving in the first degree, aka Neg 1" (RCW 46.61.5249,) is a criminal offense - a misdemeanor. Misdemeanors in the State of Washington are punished by up to 90 days in jail and a thousand dollar fine - although costs can go higher because of court costs, probations fees, and conviction fees. There is no mandatory minimum fine or jail for a Neg 1", nor is there a license suspension.
6/13/2009 Seattle traffic ticket law firms can help in many different situations. When you drive with turn signals and brake signals which don't work, you are opening yourself up to a litany of potential infractions. It is required to use your signals whenever you make lane changes, turns, slow down, or stop - even if no one is around you. (RCW 46.61.305.)
Fortunately, you can still use hand signals if the turn signals or brake lights do not work. (RCW 46.61.310 & RCW 46.61315.)
| Left Turn: | Hand and arm extended horizontally |
| Right Turn: | Hand and arm extended upward |
| Stop or decrease of speed: | Hand and arm extended downward. |
Unfortunately, you still may be cited for having non-functioning lights/signals on your vehicle. RCW 46.37.200. If you receive a traffic violation it is always a good idea to consult with an experienced Seattle traffic ticket attorney as soon as possible to help navigate the traffic court process.
http://www.washington-state-speeding-ticket.com/washington-state-speeding-fines.htmlThe less serious of the two is Negligent driving in the second degree, aka Neg 2" (RCW 46.61.525.) This is not a crime but is the most serious driving infraction you can receive. You could think of this like receiving several tickets all wrapped up in one (speeding + unsafe lane change + following too close, etc.)
Whether you get a Neg 1" or Neg 2", I would recommend hiring an Seattle attorney to fight it for you because both can dramatically increase
May 10, 2010 In order to successfully fight and beat a Washington speeding ticket based on laser technology, it is critical to have a solid understanding of how the actual laser gun functions. Our WA State traffic attorneys are very familiar with how the laser units operate. In many respects, they are actually just like a gun. They have a scope and are pointed at moving vehicles just like an actual weapon. Instead of shooting a bullet, however, they shoot a small beam of light that bounces off the vehicle and returns to the gun. Because light travels at a constant speed of 186,000 miles per second, the distance that the beam travels in direct relation to the time it takes for the beam of light to return to the unit allows it to generate an estimate of speed. It is therefore critical that the operator maintain the exact same position of the beam on the moving vehicle until the reading is complete. We also attack the validity of laser readings based on calibration, certification, and testing issues. Fight your Seattle traffic ticket with a qualified traffic ticket attorney who knows king county and Washington state traffic law. The law office of Jason Newcombe can handle your speeding ticket
April 11, 2010 Fighting Washington State speeding tickets based on radar has many elements. Every traffic infraction we fight begins with a thorough analysis of the ticket itself and the jurisdictional requirements in police report. Although law enforcement throughout Western Washington has become much better at properly writing speeding tickets and traffic infractions in the last four or five years, we are still often able to collaterally attack the validity of the ticket on procedural grounds, thereby getting our client's alleged violation dismissed on a purely technical violation. If we are unable to find a procedural deficiency, however, we still have many arguments regarding the calibration, certification, and testing of the actual radar unit. Fight your ticket with a specialized Seattle traffic attorney.
March 2, 2010 Fighting speeding tickets in Washington State requires a solid working knowledge of the state's traffic infraction court rules. They are commonly referred to as the IRLJs, but are more formally known as the Infraction Rules for Courts of Limited Jurisdiction. The WA State speeding ticket rules apply to all traffic violations issued throughout every city and county in Washington. Our Seattle speeding ticket attorneys are intimately familiar with these rules and often use them when arguing technical issues that we believe warrant a traffic infraction's dismissal. In all WA speeding ticket cases, other important IRLJ rules involve the timing of when discovery is received, when your ticket was actually filed with the court, and whether or not any speed measuring device certifications are properly on file with the court.

January 1, 2010 - Washington speeding tickets are typically issued through the use of a "Speed Measuring Device", or what is commonly referred to as a SMD. In WA State, the overwhelming majority of traffic tickets are written based on either radar or laser technology. These speed measuring devices are required to be properly calibrated, tested, and utilized when a measurement is taken. One of the many ways in which we fight Seattle traffic tickets is by collaterally attacking the accuracy of whether these devices were properly tested and used at the time that our client's traffic citation was issued. Our Washington traffic attorneys fight speeding tickets throughout Western WA.
November 20, 2009
King County. Today was a good day. One of our experienced Washington speeding ticket attorneys was able to get a case dismissed out right because the citing officer failed to provide the court with sufficient evidence to lay a proper foundation for the admissibility of his alleged radar reading. This is one of the many ways that we attack Washington state traffic tickets.
